Video does not show mosque burning, a marriage function hall caught fire accidentally
After the terror attack in Pahalgam, the Jammu and Kashmir Government has shut down 50 tourist destinations and trekking trails in the valley due to security reasons. India banned Pakistan airlines from using its airspace amid the escalating tensions. This move is expected to impact Pakistan International Airlines, which will have to operate flights through longer routes, which will result in increased costs and disruptions in connectivity. Indian army officials have demolished the houses of the terrorists and detained a few people for questioning as investigations continue.
India has taken a firm stance, warning Pakistan against unprovoked ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (LoC) and engaging with the international community to highlight the issue. All the citizens of the nation stood united, despite the terrorists trying to draw a deep line between the communities in the country by selecting their victims by asking their religion. Opposition leaders, religious and social organisations across the country declared their support to the central government in the hunt for the terrorists.
Despite all these efforts, some miscreants are spreading misinformation in an attempt to raise communal tensions in the country. A video of a building burning in the middle of a street is shared virally with the claim that the members of Bajrang Dal burned a mosque in India. Several Instagram users shared this video with the text “Bajrang dal ke logo ne Masjid jala di”
Here is the archive link of the claim.
Fact check:
The claim is False. The structure seen burning in the video is not a Masjid. It is a marriage function hall which accidentally caught fire in Ghaziabad.
When we extracted the keyframes from the video and searched them using Google reverse image search, we found that several social media users shared the same video with the caption “Massive fire broke out at Mount Green Farms Rajnagar Extension Ghaziabad”. This video was shared on April 4, 2025 before the Pahalgam terror attack took place.
Another Instagram user shared this video on April 4, 2025 with the caption ‘The banquet hall on fire in Raj Nagar Extension on Thursday afternoon. Two vehicles were also gutted in the fire that is believed to have started from a short-circuit.’
Zee news website also shared the viral video stating that a marriage function hall caught fire in Raj Nagar Extension of Nandagram police station area of Ghaziabad. Due to the fire, the main entrance of the function hall was completely burnt to ashes. On receiving the information, the fire brigade reached the spot and is trying to extinguish the fire.
According to Hindustan times, the fire officials stated that it is suspected that nearby garbage dumps had caught fire, which then spread to the parked trucks near Raj Bagh Metro station; the front portion of a farmhouse, which also served as a banquet hall, was gutted in the blaze in Raj Nagar Extension.
Therefore, the viral video does not show Bajrang Dal members setting fire to a masjid, the video shows a banquet hall catching fire accidentally in Ghaziabad. This incident was reported on April 4, 2025. The claim is False.
